We are proud to announce the second edition of the Hero Collection, featuring the artwork of Dyab Aldin. Dyab is a lawyer specializing in criminal law and a passionate advocate for humanitarian and international justice. He is also a man trapped in Gaza, living through genocide. He started drawing and writing for his mental health\u2014to process the trauma, to hold onto his humanity when everything around him is trying to strip it away. Art became his lifeline. Now, his art is printed on our Hero Collection to help us raise funds for Humanitarian Aid through HEAL Palestine.<\/u><\/a><\/p>

We are so grateful that Dyab is collaborating with us on this project.<\/p>

Through the Hero Collection, we share the stories of people in Palestine and celebrate the supporters who stand with them in solidarity. All net proceeds go to HEAL Palestine.<\/u><\/a><\/p>

How We Met Dyab<\/h2>

We met over the internet, on social media\u2014Instagram. Under horrific circumstances.<\/p>

I remember our first phone call for a fundraiser. He was fundraising for his costs to leave Gaza, while the borders were still open. I also remember him the day the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt closed on May 7, 2024, when Israeli forces seized control of the Palestinian side of the crossing\u2014and Dyab's dream was over.<\/p>

I did not see him on social media anymore. I would write to ask: \"Hello Diab, are you safe?\" Yes, he said, I am still alive.<\/p>

Then his profile picture disappeared one day and he had not posted anymore. I messaged him again: \"Hello Dyab, are you safe?\" There is no point in asking \"How are you?\" When someone is living under bombardment, displacement, and siege, the question can feel like it either ignores reality or forces the person to perform composure for your benefit.<\/p>

Dyab wrote that he finds it all so senseless. He was discouraged and wanted to stay away from social media.<\/p>

The last time he posted on social media a few months ago, he had posted one of his art works. I was surprised and taken by it and asked him if he wanted to join the Hero Collection. That is how Dyab's work ended up in our T-shirts. He was delighted that his work would be shared.<\/p>

Dyab started painting. He started painting for his mental health.<\/p>

What Life in Gaza Looks Like<\/h2>

Dyab is not alone in this. His family consists of 9 adults and 6 children, including his parents. They are sheltering in the remains of their home. Multiple family members are suffering from injuries and illnesses. As of July 2025, Dyab's vision has become blurry from malnutrition. His legs are so weak it is difficult to walk. The family is facing starvation. It is too dangerous for them to even attempt to retrieve aid. This is what Dyab lives with. Every minute. Every hour. Every day. For three years.<\/p>

They have lost everything that could be a means of livelihood.<\/p>

He Turned to Art for His Mental Health<\/h2>

In the midst of this horror, Dyab turned to drawing as a lifeline. Art became his way of processing the trauma\u2014of holding onto his humanity when everything around him is trying to strip it away. His powerful, evocative artwork speaks to the resilience of the human spirit and the universal desire for peace and dignity.<\/p>

Dyab's wife, Alexandria Alden, is a Canadian citizen. She is writing to the Canadian government with urgency, fear, and hope.<\/p>

\"My husband, Dyab Alden, is currently trapped in Gaza\u2014surrounded by war, famine, and the collapse of all basic human necessities. He lives under the constant threat of airstrikes, starvation, and displacement, with no safe way out. I am begging you for help.\"<\/p>

Alexandria and Dyab love each other deeply. Their relationship is spiritual, rooted in profound love and respect. They speak every day when possible, holding on through voice notes and text messages, clinging to each other across oceans and under fire. They are terrified of losing one another to something worse than distance: death.<\/p>

They met online on May 11, 2024. From the very first moment, their connection was profound, uniting their minds and their souls. They built a deep bond through their shared intellect and their immense passion for art, literature, reading, and writing. As a lawyer who has dedicated his life to defending human rights and believing in the values of justice and humanity, Diab found in Alexandra the embodiment of all these noble qualities. She stood as a true reflection of the humanity he believes in, and he found in her a genuine partner who shares the exact same vision of the world.<\/p>

Through a year of a beautiful relationship, they spoke every single day, discovering each other's worlds and getting to know their families, building a bridge between their souls that transcends distance. She accompanied him through the longest and most terrifying nights of the war, and her presence was the light that dispelled the darkness of those days. Crowning this immense love and shared resilience, they decided to unite their lives, and they got married on May 5, 2025.<\/p>

They have been married since that beautiful day, living a reality filled with hope and anticipation. From then until this very moment, they have been trying every possible way to finally be together and hold each other, as they stand facing the cruel borders and vast oceans that separate them. It is a story of immense love and longing, a continuous journey toward the day the distance is finally erased and their souls can reside in one place.<\/p>

They have dreams. They hope to build a peaceful life in Canada, start a family, heal from trauma, and contribute to the community. They've talked about starting a business together, planting a small garden, and living a life grounded in love and service. These are normal hopes\u2014but they feel like distant dreams as long as Dyab remains trapped in a war zone with no safe exit.<\/p>

Alexandria is not asking for special treatment. She is asking for compassion, justice, and urgent humanitarian action. Canada has evacuated family members of citizens from crisis areas before. She is asking for Dyab to be next.<\/p>

The petition will be formally shared with the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs, The Honourable Anita Anand, The Honourable Joanne Thompson, The Honourable Tom Osborne, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), Global Affairs Canada, and both the Canadian Embassy in Ramallah, Palestine, and the Embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel.<\/p>

The T-shirt Design: From Canvas to Cotton<\/h2>

Night of Melody<\/strong><\/p>

This painting rests upon a profound visual and philosophical paradox, where life emerges from the very heart of the rubble. In the foreground, a little girl sits on a pile of stones under a gouache-like night sky, comforted by the curve of a slender crescent moon embracing the darkness. She releases a kite, woven with dreamy flowers, to the wind, rising lightly to transcend the ruins of reality. Below, the houses manifest in the shape of musical notes with windows glowing with warmth, while the Palestinian flag flutters atop one of them, rooting a sense of belonging and identity.<\/p>

In this work, music takes on the role of visual identity; it is the objective correlative of eternity and the continuous melody that overcomes all forms of destruction. The use of night as the dominant background reflects a complex, surreal reality; in our daylight, space is confiscated and flying kites is forbidden, turning a simple childhood practice into a perilous adventure. Thus, the night here transforms into a safe haven and a velvet curtain under which children hide to exercise their natural right to soar and play in complete freedom. It is a visual symphony that celebrates the will to live\u2014the will that invents a vast stage for hope out of the darkness.<\/p>

In Diab's words: \"This work represents an extension of my soul and my reflections on the human capacity to create meaning from the heart of tragedy, embodying my vision of art as an authentic aesthetic expression. The musical notes in the painting take the shape of warm sanctuaries, while the kite transcends as an abstract idea overcoming all restrictions. This painting is my personal manifesto, affirming our perpetual ability to invent a new sky for our dreams, taking the night as a cloak that embraces our joy and guards our childhood.\"<\/p>
